About MeWelcome, my name is Al Herum, and Marine Electronics Reviews is my website. I started out, what is now over a decade ago, writing about fishing, boats, and boating gear. For the last several years I have been concentrating my efforts more toward marine electronics and electrical gear. My work has been published in Florida Sportsman, Powerboat Reports, Practical Sailor, Trailer Boats, Chesapeake Bay Magazine, and Offshore.
We all tend to move toward what we know and like best. That is what has happened to me and I thought it would be great to share this information in my very own publication, so I created Marine Electronics Reviews. My experience in electrical stuff and electronics started long ago. Way back in high school I started things off by building my first electronics project. I continued with this technical background by getting an Aviation Management degree and my aircraft mechanics license in college. This eventually led to a two-decade stint as a pilot at a major US airline. Somewhere in there was a move south from the Midwest to the Florida Keys. Once I had arrived in the sunny south I decided to tackle my USCG captain's license and jumped into the charter fishing business. I started out with an OUPV and by my third renewal had managed to get a 50-ton Master Near Coastal certificate to put up on the wall. I have owned and/or operated everything from a RIB with a small outboard to 50-foot twin diesel sportfishing boats. Right now I own a 25’ Contender with a single Suzuki 250, a restored 1974 20' Seacraft, and a 16' flats skiff. All of these boats have been used to test a variety of gear. My hope is that this website will give Marine Electronics Reviews readers information they can't get anywhere else—information that will provide enough data and opinion to make an informed buying decision and save you money, aggravation, and time. I hope that if you have any questions about any piece of marine electronics or electrical gear or you have an idea on a tips or an installation you'd like to see on the website please feel free to use our Contact Us to send me a note. Thanks for viewing.

"Marine Electronics Reviews is a great resource when looking to upgrade and configure electronics for maximum effectiveness. They were very helpful in suggesting the best configuration for my new purchase of a network chartplotter system." Mike from | ||
