A Comprehensive 7x50 Marine Binocular Review

The Nikon Ocean Pro marine binocular has sleek look and smooth grey finish. They weigh in at 41-ounces, making them a couple ounces heavier than other comparable binoculars.

One of the first things we noticed in this binocular review was the Ocean Pro compass. It is one of the smallest and least obtrusive we’ve seen and makes these binos easy to grip and comfortable to hold.

The Ocean Pro features center focus with a single diopter adjustment on the right eyepiece.

Our reviewers found the center focusing mechanism somewhat stiff and difficult to operate with one finger.

These Nikon marine binoculars provided our testers with a sharp top-quality image both daylight conditions and at night. They earned an excellent rating for day/night viewing.

The compass was easy to see and read with or without eyeglasses.

Nikon supplies a nice case with the Ocean Pro that is big enough to hold the binoculars and the thickly padded neck strap.

The Nikon neck strap provides floatation and distributes the weight of the binocular over a large area of your neck making them fairly comfortable to wear for extended periods.

Front lens caps fit well on these Nikon binos and were easy to use. They are anchored to the center hinge, not our preference, but it seems to work on these binoculars.

Unfortunately, our test sample binoculars failed the dunk test. We noticed numerous water droplets on the inside of the left front lens following the dunking.

We contacted Nikon about this failure. The company said the test indicated this particular set of binoculars was defective. Under Nikon's no-fault 25-year warranty, this unit would be replaced.

Nikon sent us another set to test. We dunked the new pair as soon as it arrived and found no evidence of water intrusion.

Top notch optical performance and a 25-year warranty get these Nikon marine binoculars high marks.
